How to choose home textile manufacturers
What to look for in a home textile manufacturer
Home textiles are made by mills that weave or knit their own fabric and then sew it into sheets, duvet covers or towels. Look for a mill whose main product is yours: a terry towel mill and a sateen sheet mill are different businesses.
The brands on these cards are some of the best known names in premium bedding and towels, and several mills on this page have produced for more than one of them. That is a good sign a mill can hold a premium standard.
- Fiber and yarn: long staple cotton, linen, the yarn count and ply.
- Weave and finish: percale or sateen, garment wash, stonewash, terry weight.
- Certifications you need to sell into your market (organic, chemical safety).
- Premium bedding and bath brands they have produced for, shown on the cards.
MOQs and sampling
Minimums are set per color and size set, because each color is a dye lot. Start with fewer colors and the core sizes. Wash test samples several times and measure shrinkage; that is where cheaper sheets and towels let customers down.
Domestic or overseas
Portugal and Italy suit premium smaller runs and quick shipping to Europe. Turkey is strong in towels and robes. India and Pakistan produce cotton bedding at scale. Very little home textile weaving is left in the US.
Questions to ask on the first call
Mills that supply premium brands will talk in numbers: yarn count, weight, shrinkage. Ask for them, and get them in writing on the spec sheet.
- What yarns and fibers do you use for this product, and from where?
- What finish do you recommend, and what shrinkage do you allow after washing?
- What is the minimum per color and per size set?
- Which certifications do you hold, and can you share the certificates?

Q01What is the difference between percale and sateen?
Percale is a one over, one under weave: crisp and matte. Sateen floats more yarn on the surface: smoother with a sheen. Our percale vs sateen page compares them from the mill side.
Q02Do these mills work with small bedding brands?
Some do. Mills that supply large premium brands often also run smaller orders, at higher prices per unit. Ask about minimums per color.
