A brand on a card means the factory has made product for that brand at some point. It does not mean it makes it today. Use it as proof the factory can work at that level, then ask your own questions.

How to choose clothing manufacturers
What to look for in a clothing manufacturer
Match the factory to the garment, not to the word "clothing". A knit mill that makes polos all day is a different business from a woven shirt maker, a denim laundry or a cut and sew shop that does small runs of everything. Start with the one product you are launching and find factories whose main line is that product.
- The product types they make most, and photos of current production, not a catalog of everything.
- Brands they have produced for at your price point. A factory that makes for premium golf brands will price and finish like it.
- Whether they source fabric and trims themselves (full package) or expect you to supply them (CMT, cut make trim).
- Who you will talk to every week, and how fast they answer a technical question about your tech pack.
MOQs and sampling
Minimum order quantity is set per style and often per color, and the fabric mill has its own minimum behind the factory's. Ask for both. A low headline MOQ can still mean buying a full roll of a custom fabric.
Expect a first sample to be wrong. Plan for a fit sample, a corrected sample and a pre-production sample in the real fabric and trims, and pay for samples so you are a real customer. Send a tech pack with measurements and tolerances, not just a reference photo.
Domestic or overseas
A domestic cut and sew shop costs more per unit but is easier to visit, faster to sample and simpler to reorder. Overseas, the clothing factories in these records are mostly in China, Japan, Peru, Vietnam and Thailand, with smaller makers in Italy, Turkey and Portugal. Many founders sample and run a first small batch close to home, then move the proven style to a larger factory.

Q01How do I find a clothing manufacturer for a small brand?
Decide the exact product first, then look for factories whose main line is that product and who have produced for brands at your price point. Shortlist several, send the same tech pack and questions to each, compare MOQs, sample costs and lead times, and pay for samples from the best two or three.
Q02Does a brand listed on a factory card mean the factory makes that brand today?
No. It means the factory has produced for the brand at some point, seen in US import records, a disclosure or our research, with the dates shown on the card. Brands move production often.
Q03What is the difference between CMT and full package production?
With CMT (cut, make, trim) you supply the fabric and trims and the factory sews. With full package the factory sources materials too and quotes one price per finished garment. Full package is simpler for a first collection; CMT gives you more control over materials.
