No public record names the factory that builds today's onn TVs. Walmart has declined to tell Consumer Reports which companies build them (Consumer Reports, updated December 4, 2024). The public records that do exist are older or indirect:
- FCC filings, 2015 to 2017. Shenyang Tongfang Multimedia Technology, a TV company in Shenyang, China, is the FCC grantee on 17 LED TV filings first granted between May 2015 and August 2017. Its declarations in those filings list ONN among the trade names the models could be sold under, next to Westinghouse, Seiki and Element. A trade name in a filing is not a record that any onn TV was built from that design.
- The warranty. The onn Roku TV warranty for sets 42 inches and up says Element Electronics, of South Carolina, handles warranty repairs (Consumer Reports).
- VIZIO. Walmart has owned VIZIO since December 3, 2024. Since November 2025 Walmart has sold onn TVs that run VIZIO's operating system, and the onn Roku TV support site carries a "powered by VIZIO" line.
None of these tells you which plant assembled the TV in your living room. Below: what each record says, what it doesn't, and how to check your own set.
01What the FCC records show
Any TV with Wi-Fi needs FCC equipment authorization before it is sold in the US. The application names a grantee (the company that applies) and includes exhibits: test reports, photos, label drawings and cover letters. These are public on the FCC's site and on mirrors such as fccid.io.
We searched the records for onn TVs on October 23, 2026. No TV filing carries the onn name in its title. One TV company's filings list it in their cover letters: Shenyang Tongfang Multimedia Technology Co., Limited (FCC grantee code 2ACWI). Its "family model" and authorization letters list the trade names each model may carry "for trading purpose". On 17 LED TV filings, ONN is one of them.
| FCC ID | First granted | Trade names listed in the filing |
|---|---|---|
| 2ACWISE50FYT | May 2015 | Element, Fluid, THTF, Seiki, Westinghouse, Sharp, Onn, Element Electronics |
| 2ACWI32FXC4TA | May 2016 | THTF, Fluid, Westinghouse, Seiki, Element, SHARP, ONN, Element Electronics |
| 2ACWIE4SJ5516H | October 2016 | THTF, Fluid, Westinghouse, Seiki, Element, SHARP, ONN, Element Electronics |
| 2ACWIWD50UK4550 | January 2017 | THTF, Fluid, Westinghouse, Seiki, Element, ONN |
| 2ACWIELST3216H | June 2017 | THTF, Fluid, Westinghouse, Seiki, Element, SHARP, ONN, Element Electronics |
| 2ACWIE4SJ5517 | August 2017 | THTF, Fluid, Westinghouse, Seiki, Element, ONN |
The other 11 filings with ONN in the list were granted between November 2015 and June 2017 (the ledger has every FCC ID).
What this shows: in 2015 to 2017, a Chinese TV company told the FCC that these TV designs could be sold under the ONN name, among others. That is the only public record we found that ties a named TV company to the onn name.
What it doesn't show: that any onn TV was actually built from these designs, how many, or for how long. The onn Roku TVs of recent years don't appear under the onn name in the FCC records we searched. A TV whose Wi-Fi comes from a pre-certified module can carry the module's FCC ID, which names the module's maker, not the TV's.
02The warranty, VIZIO and Roku
Element Electronics. Consumer Reports read the onn Roku TV warranty and reported that, for onn TVs 42 inches and larger, Element Electronics handles repairs made under warranty. Element is a TV brand based in South Carolina. Handling warranty repairs is a service role. It is not a record of who assembled the set.
VIZIO. Walmart completed its purchase of VIZIO on December 3, 2024, and VIZIO became a wholly owned Walmart subsidiary (Walmart press release). On November 25, 2025 The Desk reported that Walmart had started selling an onn TV powered by VIZIO's operating system, replacing the onn Roku models of earlier years. On October 23, 2026, Walmart's listings showed models such as the onn 50 in Class 4K UHD Smart Television Powered by VIZIO OS (model 50S4V1), and the onn Roku TV support site (onntvsupport.com) read "powered by VIZIO". VIZIO supplies the software and, on that site, the support. Neither the listing nor the site names a factory, and Walmart's listing gives "Onn" as the manufacturer.
Roku. Roku supplied the operating system for the onn Roku TVs, which the onn Quick Start Guide calls "onn Roku TV" and which need a Roku account to activate. That is a software role. We found no record that Roku assembled the sets.
03Who is on record for other onn devices
The onn label covers far more than TVs, and for the smaller devices the FCC records are clearer, because each one is certified under its own name. On October 23, 2026, these onn products listed these grantees:
| onn product | FCC grantee | First granted |
|---|---|---|
| onn. 2K Streaming Stick | Askey Computer Corp (Taiwan) | March 2021 |
| onn. 4K Streaming Box | Luxshare Precision Industry (Shenzhen, China) | January 2023 |
| onn. 4K Pro Streaming Device | Luxshare Precision Industry | January 2024 |
| onn. 10.1 Tablet | Hunan Greatwall Computer System (China) | January 2024 |
| onn. 11 Tablet Pro | Hefei BOE Vision-electronic Technology (China) | July 2024 |
| onn 5.1.2 Atmos Soundbar | Shenzhen 3NOD Digital Technology (China) | January 2020 |
| onn. 5.1 wireless soundbar | Zhongshan City Richsound Electronic Industrial (China) | January 2022 |
Different products, different companies. That is normal for a store brand: the retailer owns the name and the specs, and contracts each category to a specialist. It is also why one answer to "who makes onn" can't be right for every product, or for every year.
04What is not known
- Which factory built the onn Roku TVs sold before the VIZIO OS models. We found no FCC filing, recall or Walmart statement that names one.
- Which factory builds the VIZIO OS onn TVs. Walmart owns VIZIO, but that is a fact about the software and the company, not a record of the assembly plant.
- Whether sizes and years share a factory. Store brands often use more than one supplier, and suppliers change.
- Whether an onn TV matches any other brand's TV. Nothing in the records supports that, and similar parts or software don't make two TVs the same.
Some websites name TCL, Hisense or Funai. We found no public record for those claims. One near miss is worth knowing about: Hisense TV manuals from 2014 list an "ONN" code. It is a universal remote code, not a sign of who built anything.
05How to check your own onn TV
- Read the label on the back. It shows the model number, the production date and the country of origin. Write down any FCC ID.
- Search the FCC ID. Use the FCC's equipment authorization search or fccid.io. The grantee and the exhibits (label drawings, internal photos, cover letters) tell you who applied and, often, who the module or the set came from.
- Search the model number too. Cover letters often list every model number and trade name a filing covers, the way Shenyang Tongfang's do.
- Check the safety mark. A UL or ETL mark with a file number can be looked up in the certifier's online directory, which names the company holding the listing.
- Read the warranty card. It names the company that services the set, which, as with Element, is not always the company that built it.
This is the same record trail we use to find who makes anything. Our guide on how to find a manufacturer walks through it with import records, and the private label vs white label guide explains how a store brand like onn gets built from contract suppliers. If you are building your own electronics product, the Product Sourcing Secrets course covers how to brief and vet a contract factory.
QQuestions
Q01Who makes onn TVs for Walmart?
Walmart doesn't say, and it declined to tell Consumer Reports. The only public record naming a TV company is a set of FCC filings from 2015 to 2017 in which Shenyang Tongfang Multimedia Technology listed ONN among the trade names for 17 LED TV models. We found no record naming the factory for onn Roku TVs or the newer VIZIO OS models.
Q02Are onn TVs made by VIZIO?
No public record says so. Walmart has owned VIZIO since December 3, 2024, and since November 2025 Walmart has sold onn TVs that run VIZIO OS. That makes VIZIO the software supplier and a sister company. It is not a record of which plant assembles the sets.
Q03Are onn TVs made by Roku?
Roku supplied the operating system for onn Roku TVs. We found no record that Roku assembled them. In November 2025 Walmart began selling onn TVs that run VIZIO OS instead (The Desk).
Q04Who fixes onn TVs under warranty?
Consumer Reports read the onn Roku TV warranty: for sets 42 inches and up, Element Electronics, a South Carolina TV company, handles warranty repairs. Your own warranty card names the service company for your model.
Q05Where are onn TVs made?
Check the label on the back of your set: it prints the country of origin and the production date. The FCC filings we found that list the ONN name are from a company in Shenyang, China, but they cover 2015 to 2017 designs, not every onn TV.
