Who makes Walmart's store brands?
Walmart doesn't publish a list of who makes its private labels. Public records name some of the companies behind them: FCC filings, federal recalls, SEC filings and Walmart's own listings. Here they are, label by label, with dates.
Walmart's store brands come from many different suppliers, and Walmart doesn't publish a supplier list. Its annual reports list the private labels it owns, among them Great Value, Equate, Onn, Everstart, George and Mainstays. The companies behind them show up only in public records, one product at a time:
- Electronics (onn): FCC filings name the companies that applied to certify each device.
- Car batteries (EverStart): Clarios, the former Johnson Controls battery business, lists EverStart among its private labels in its 2021 and 2024 SEC filings.
- Tools (HART): a 2021 federal recall names a Techtronic Industries plant in Vietnam. HART was TTI's brand, sold at Walmart, and TTI ended the business in 2025.
- Motor oil (Super Tech): Walmart's own listings name Highline Warren as the manufacturer.
- Food and health (Great Value, Equate, Parent's Choice): FDA recall notices name the company recalling each lot.
Each record is a fact about a date and a product, not about the whole label today. The table shows what is on record for each category, and the pages linked from it go deeper.

Who has made Walmart products, by category
Each row is one public record: who it names, what kind of record it is and its date. An FCC grantee is the company that applied for certification, an API licensee holds the license to the oil's marks, and a recalling firm is the company that issued the recall. None of these is proof of who supplies the product today.

Walmart products in depth
- Who makes onn TVs?
Walmart doesn't name the factories that build its onn TVs. Here is what the FCC's equipment records, the warranty and Walmart's own announcements do show, with dates, and how to read the label on your set.
- Who makes EverStart batteries?
EverStart is Walmart's own battery brand. Battery makers' SEC filings and press releases say who has supplied Walmart's car batteries since 2010. Here are the records, with dates, and how to read the codes on your battery.
- Who makes HART tools?
HART tools were sold at Walmart, but the brand belongs to Techtronic Industries, not Walmart. Here is what TTI's own filings and a federal recall show, with dates, and what the 2025 shutdown means.
- Who makes Super Tech oil?
Super Tech is Walmart's motor oil brand. Walmart's product listings name the company behind it, and the American Petroleum Institute's directory shows who holds the license. Here is what each record says, and what it doesn't.
How Walmart's labels get made
A store brand is a name the retailer owns. Walmart sets the specification and the price, and contracts the production to companies that already run the plants: a dairy for cottage cheese, a battery maker for car batteries, an electronics company for a streaming stick. One label usually spans many suppliers, because no single factory makes cheese, chips and shrimp.
That is why "who makes Great Value" has no single answer. The records below the brand name do, one product and one date at a time. Suppliers also change. A recall from 2018 tells you who handled those lots in 2018, not who fills the shelf today.
HART is a slightly different case. It was sold at Walmart but owned by Techtronic Industries, which announced in December 2025 that it was ending the HART business.
What each kind of record proves
| Record | What it names | What it doesn't prove |
|---|---|---|
| FDA or CPSC recall notice | The company recalling the product, and often the manufacturer and plant | Who made other lots, other sizes or later batches |
| FCC filing | The grantee that applied to certify a device, plus its exhibits | That the grantee assembled every unit |
| SEC filing or press release | A supplier's own statement about its customers or private labels | Which products or years it covers, unless it says so |
| API license | The company licensed to use API's marks on an oil | Who blended it |
| Retailer listing | The manufacturer in the retailer's product data | That the data is current for every size |
When two records agree, as Clarios' filings and Johnson Controls' 2010 release do for EverStart, the picture is stronger. When a website names a famous brand with no record behind it, treat it as a guess.
How to check who made your Walmart product
- Read the package. Look for "manufactured for", "distributed by" or "made in" lines, a USDA establishment number (meat and poultry) or a dairy plant code, a lot code and the country of origin.
- Search the recall databases. The FDA recalls list covers food, drugs and pet food, and cpsc.gov covers consumer products. Search the brand and product name.
- Look up the registry. An FCC ID on an electronic device, an API license on motor oil, or an NDC on an over-the-counter drug (search DailyMed) each leads to a record. For Equate drugs, the NDC labeler is often Walmart itself, so check recall notices for the maker.
- Search the supplier's filings. Public companies sometimes name their private labels, as Clarios does with EverStart.
Our guide on how to find a manufacturer shows the same method with US import records.
Building your own private label
Walmart's labels work the way most private labels do: the brand owns the name and the specification, and a contract factory that already produces the category runs production. If you want to build your own product, the same records that show who has made Walmart's goods can help you find factories that work for brands in your category. Our guide on private label vs white label explains the difference, and the private label manufacturers list shows factories in The Vault that make products for brands. The Product Sourcing Secrets course covers how to vet and brief them.
Questions
Q01Who makes Great Value products?
Many companies, each for different products, and Walmart does not publish them. FDA recall notices name some: Saputo Cheese USA for Great Value cottage cheese (2026), Schreiber Foods for shredded cheese (2019), Shearer's Foods for kettle chips (2023), Continental Mills for pancake mix (2022) and, in 2007, ConAgra for some Great Value peanut butter. Each covers specific lots, not the whole label.
Q02Who makes Equate products?
Different contract manufacturers for different products. FDA recall notices name Brassica Pharma for Equate eye ointments (2024), Altaire Pharmaceuticals for Equate eye drops and ointments (2019) and Tris Pharma for Equate infants' ibuprofen (2018). On the Equate drug labels we checked, the labeler of record is Walmart itself.
Q03Who makes onn products?
It depends on the product. FCC filings list Askey Computer for an onn streaming stick (2021), Luxshare Precision Industry for onn streaming boxes (2023 and 2024) and Hefei BOE for an onn tablet (2024). For onn TVs, the only TV maker on record is Shenyang Tongfang, in FCC filings from 2015 to 2017.
Q04Who makes EverStart batteries?
Clarios, the former Johnson Controls battery business, lists EverStart among the private labels it provides in SEC filings from 2021 and 2024. Johnson Controls announced in 2010 that Walmart chose it as sole source for its car batteries.
Q05Is HART a Walmart brand?
HART tools were sold at Walmart, but the brand belongs to Techtronic Industries (TTI), which also owns Milwaukee and sells Ryobi power tools under license. TTI announced in December 2025 that it was ending the HART business.
